This soup was excellent and an superb way to apply up our Christmas Eve prime rib. My family of 7 loved it and I loved the idea of not wasting a single ounce of an expensive prime rib (including the basic). Made equally directed, but next year I will try simmering the bones in my crockpot overnight and so the next day doing the reduction. This might save on time because like another reviewer stated this took longer fourth dimension period to reduce than the recipe called for. Since at that place were no measurements on the amount of h2o to embrace on the bones, this time would vary person to person, depending on how much water they used. I simmered for about 2.5 hours on the stove and then finally ended upward just humid to reduce. Hence my idea to employ my crockpot adjacent time then either practise a boiled reduction or do a simmering reduction. Thanks Emily! It was a hit with all 5 of my kids, and it was a hit with me considering I finally have an awesome recipe to united states of america with prime rib leftovers.

Loved this recipe. I had a 12 pound prime rib so I had 5 bones. I upped the recipe accordingly. I also knew I would desire more meat and so I cleaned and cubed a steak sized portion to add together to the ribs so nosotros could have more meat in the dish. So I guess I fabricated it a stew/soup. Yes information technology is fourth dimension consuming, merely what good soup or stew isn't. Because I heavily season my prime rib roasts, I waited until later on I added all the cooked ingredients before adding any salt or pepper. I did not add mushrooms because even though I honey everything else, that is 1 thing this cook doesn't eat! lol I also chopped about three quarters of a agglomeration of dark-green onions and threw them in about 5 min before it were finished to get some of the season into the soup. Bottom line is... the flavors were bang-up, it was worth the effort and I expect forwards to making it once again afterward my next prime rib. Thank you Emily!

I used the pressure cooker (20 min) for the basic. Added quick cook barley and it was an astonishing soup that disappeared.
03/22/2014
This recipe needed adjustments. Added crimson vino and Kitchen Bouquet to make broth richer. Also used Portabello Mushrooms, not push button, and added onions, carrots & garlic to give it more depth. Definitely time consuming but well worth information technology. Served with crusty Artisan Bread and nosotros couldn't get enough.
12/26/2010
Excellent recipe. I added a few things as I always do. Worcestershire sauce, flour, half and one-half,carrots, garlic ,onion rosemary and thyme. Thickened information technology upwards a bit.
12/27/2010
VERY skilful soup! I did start with sauteing chopped onion and celery in butter, then added the prime number rib, beef stock; added carrots and two potatoes. I already had rosemary, garlic & thyme coated on my prime number rib from the twenty-four hours earlier, so that added wonderful flavour. Thanks Emily! This was so proficient and a great fashion to employ upward every bit of that expensive Christmas prime rib! KEEPER!
12/27/2010
This was smashing! I added some more than veggies, used ii cans of beef broth and a some steak seasoning. A great use of left-over prime rib when you just tin't consume another sandwich.
12/26/2009
Simple and Delicious, I made a 3 rib Prime Rib roast for my Son and I for Christmas Dinner and then fabricated this soup. Very Good!
12/27/2010
I liked it a lot. My 18 twelvemonth quondam son, all the same, went nuts. He ate everything besides the small bowl I had. I asked him how many stars he'd requite it out of five and he said, "twelve constellations". This recipe rocks. Enough said.

I used a vii rib xviii pounder for New Years. It was easy to cook and came out great. I cooked down all the ribs in a crock pot overnight. Pull the bone from the meat and let the meat cool too. Its easier to seperate the fats and connective tissues when common cold. I likewise doubled the broth and added some chicken bouillion (shhh..dont tell the ribs), likewise a few each celery and carrots. Turned out dandy and made myself experience proficient near spending so much on the initial roast. Savour

My hubby and son merely raved nigh this soup! The only thing I found was, it took too long for it to cook down. Exit plenty of time to cook this! Worth it!
12/07/2010
A lilliputian time consuming, but it'southward worth it! I used barley instead of the tater, just because that'due south what I had handy. Came out first-class!
02/20/2010
I'm making this right at present so far, it smells delicious. Question - what is with the nutritional information?? I actually can't see that it would be 1800 calories for Any soup, let alone a goop based soup that you've skimmed the fatty off of?
01/03/2010
This takes a long fourth dimension to cook so make sure yous plan for information technology. It's a great way to apply up leftover prime rib, and practiced flavors, just I felt like it needed some more than vegetables in it to make information technology heartier.
12/xxx/2016
Fabricated this in my Ninja Crock Pot. Used our leftover Prime Rib and basic from Christmas eve and let it cook done ALL solar day. Sauteed some shallots and fresh garlic then added 2 32 oz cartons of Beefiness stock. About an hr earlier I served information technology I added carrots, potatoes and mushrooms. Added a dash of Worcestershire sauce, fresh rosemary and black pepper. No need for other seasonings as the Prime number Rib was already pre-seasoned when I bought it. I did add flour to thicken information technology upwards. AMAZING flavor! Definitely want to make this once again.
01/03/2012
While my married man thought information technology was too salty, the residual of us loved it. My teenager had 4 bowls for dinner. I added carrots to this recipe and extra steak. I will make this over again next time we have prime rib.
01/06/2012
This was and so awesome! We had been at a friends house on New Years Eve and ate prime rib, they had bones left and I said I would look for a recipe to utilise them. My just wish is that it made more! Shared some with our friends from New Years they are saving all their hereafter basic for us! Fourth dimension consuming recipe, only definitely worth information technology!
01/05/2012
Excellent soup. Time counsuming but worth information technology. I cooked the basic overnight in the crockpot so merely followed the recipe. My family loved it. Thank you for sharing!
11/18/2010
fantabulous, don't rush it.
12/26/2010
This recipes is smashing and is a great`way to use up left over standing rib roast. I followed equally written and added some extra pieces of meat. It came out a bit salty. Information technology may have been the make on broth I use and so I would propose waiting to flavor with table salt until half fashion through terminal simmer, and then add together if necessary. Overall this was fantastic and I am psyched I constitute something skilful to practise with left over roast. I finally feel like I used everything.
12/29/2012
Very nice use of prime number rib bones. I added more broth, some barley & baby onions to suit our taste. Cheers for sharing!
12/29/2010
Terrifc Soup! Skipped the potato and added 4 minor sliced yellow onions. Hubby said it was perfect and any other additions would detract from the original flavoring of the Prime Rib stock.

Swell way to use bones and stretch Prime number Rib

4-2-2018 ~Afterward all my years of cooking and blistering, it still is remarkable to me what one can put on the dinner tabular array that is nourishing, delicious, and inexpensive all at once. A soup similar this is a example in point. Remember about it – a couple of bones (prime number rib or otherwise), simmered for hours, with everything but the kitchen sink (whatever you have on manus basically) added to the goop to brand a substantial soup. I've been making soup like this for decades, and I followed this recipe loosely. I find no need to reduce the broth. If yous've got "skilful bones," pun intended, and plenty of them, there is no need for that. I did employ roasted prime rib bones, some meat fastened, along with celery and its leaves, parsley, a few cloves of garlic, a footling salt, a fleck of lycopersicon esculentum paste and a glug of cherry-red vino. Something I tried that was new for me was to make this in the slow cooker and while it turned out perfectly, I actually didn't observe any particular reward to that. Not a fan of potatoes in soup, after straining the goop I used an appropriate pasta for soup instead, along with some odds and ends I had in the fridge – mushrooms, carrots, zucchini and celery. This was a home run tonight, as it always is.
12/31/2009
Very good all around! The entire family loved information technology e'er our v yr old. It is a recipe we are keeping in the recipe book! Thanks y'all
01/11/2015
Really swell! We do a 7rib roast so I freeze the ribs in ii packages (3 in one, four in another), then make this recipe on 2 different occasions. I likewise double the beef broth to 4 cups, add 3 chopped carrots and ane celery stalk chopped. I do non accommodate the common salt or pepper, information technology's seasoned enough. Peachy recipe, thanks!
12/27/2011
This is the 2nd time that I have made this with our leftover Christmas Eve prime rib. Very skillful! I cut the mushrooms in half, added sauted onion, actress beef, added the au jus from the meat and served with a bootleg crusty breadstuff (Easy Whole Wheat Bread) from this site. Amazing!
12/31/2016
What a not bad way to apply the leftover basic and meat! My family loved information technology. Based on someone else's comments, I used the crock pot and put the bones in with beef broth for half-dozen hours. Then, I cooked information technology as written. I didn't used any extra salt or pepper since information technology was already in my prime number rib. I also had a basin of shredded raw lettuce to top off the soup to add a crispness/freshness to the soup. I likewise bought a loaf of roasted garlic bread to accompany this hearty meal. I would do it again. There was nothing wasted from the prime rib. Thank you!
12/27/2011
been workin on this for well-nigh 3 hours now......yummy! added carrots, garlic, onions and some of the left over au jus, non done yet but still tastes awesome! Also, like another reviewer, finishing in the crock pot after skimming fat, add all together and let it work its magic! thanks Emily
07/31/2012
used iii t basic instead and omitted fat skipping step - this is good - keep your t bones!
01/thirteen/2017
This was fantastic!!! I froze the bones from our Christmas Prime Rib until I was ready to brand soup. I don't know why some reviewers complained about the time it takes, good soup takes fourth dimension!!! I substituted barley instead of potatoes, other than that, pretty much followed the recipe. I will never throw out prime rib bones once again, no matter how tired I am!
01/23/2014
This recipe was good. I was confused by the motion picture, information technology looks like onions and carrots were added too. I did add together the extra vegetables plus celery. It is yummy and fifty-fifty amend the next day.
12/26/2014
Amazing! My husband and kids loved this soup! I added onions, carrots some soy, red wine and west. sauce. Likewise light-green onion tops and green onion whites. They dipped some cutting white onions into milk and and then flour and fried them for topping of the soup. My husband swears this was improve than the prime rib itself!
12/30/2016
I did not make any changes and shared information technology with someone else It was absolutely great and would make it once more
04/03/2018
I recently purchased a small rib roast and had the butcher slice it into steaks. Equally I've had my heart on this recipe for some time now, it was finally fourth dimension to practice something with those bones. I used my toaster oven to roast them first and then followed directions to make the soup. I did sweat a finely minced mirepoix , several teaspoons of love apple paste and a dash of herbes de provence (had neglected to use a rub on the bones) in a scrap of butter before adding to the the stock. Another addition was some farro that I had on hand. It'due south astonishing how much meat tin be salvaged from these bones. Not as surprising is the fat content. The footstep requiring the reduced broth to be refrigerated until the fat congeals should not exist dismissed. I practise like the thought to simmer the bones overnight in a ho-hum cooker. I'll probably give that a try the side by side time. This soup was a solid 5 stars for us. Swell soup!
02/02/2015
Found this recipe this year and decided to try it after Christmas (bought an extra rib or two and saved the bones) -- Oh.My.Goodness....this soup is amazing and I WILL exist making information technology over again. If I could give it 10 stars I would! The broth was amazing and the left over beef in it was so, SO, skilful. Thanks for the recipe - it's a keeper!
09/08/2016
Came out pretty good. Pretty tasty.
01/03/2018
Added some carrots and celery to add more veggies!
01/01/2016
Added half onion, celery and carrots otherwise followed recipe. Delicious and definitely volition exist using this recipe again in the future.
12/26/2018
I added celery, carrots, a can of diced tomatoes, fresh parsley, garlic, onion, portabella mushrooms, croaky black pepper. It is delicious!
01/02/2017
I added 3/four C frozen pearl onions with the potatoes. Then 3/4 C carrots along with the mushrooms. With 5 minutes left, I added the frozen peas, which gave it great color.
10/19/2013
I made this but did one thing unlike. I seared the steaks existent fast on a grill with steak seasoning. It gave that char-fume taste to the soup and added a another depth of flavor. Great use for left over steak.
12/22/2013
I have made this the past 2 years and am going to make it again this year. Love information technology, and the whole family does too! My father-in-laws birthday is December 26, so I brand a Prime number Rib Roast for Christmas and then brand this delious soup the side by side day for his birthday. I feed about 12-sixteen people, and they all beloved it!
12/29/2015
This is an fantabulous soup and we honey it. I salve up steak bones and prime rib bones to use. I also add together celery and carrots to it. Yummy!!!!!
05/21/2018
Not sure how to charge per unit this? My hubby like it only the kids would not touch it. To me it was missing a lot of flavors, perchance add together an onion, garlic, carrots, celery and barley or small pasta. I do non think I will make this again merely I liked the idea of saving the ribs for another use.
12/29/2019
Need to add garlic celery onions ruby wine Worcestershire sauce and corn starch to get this merely correct.
01/03/2020
Followed recipe to a tee, except for beefiness broth. Only had i cup, used two bullion cubes and added one cup of water and reduced. Very expert, everyone enjoyed it! Will make over again, side by side fourth dimension we accept Prime Rib.
12/28/2019
Instead of mudhrooms we add carrots
12/29/2018
First-class recipe. The all-time tasting soup I ever made. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
01/03/2017
Soup was amazing...and so easy to make. Definitely will brand this anytime I do a prime rib!
01/19/2020
I as well had too much water left over after simmering the prime ribs, but that was ok equally I like a soup instead of a stew. Merely modify I fabricated was added barley per family asking. I had some wonderful dried porcini mushrooms on mitt that really added to the flavor likewise. And couldn't aid myself with some of my stale rosemary every bit nosotros love it on prime rib! Thank you Emily for a great recipe.
12/28/2019
This soup was delicious! The recipe is a good starter, but I made some additions, per some of the other reviews I read. I added cherry wine and kitchen bouquet to brand the broth richer, and cut up a couple of carrots to add too. I used portobello mushrooms and sauteed celery and onion in butter to add together. When the vegetables were done, I added cornstarch to thicken a scrap. VERY tasty!
12/thirty/2014
This was delicious. My married man wanted a stew so 2 added a roux. Besides a splash of cream. Was DELICIOUS. Mushrooms gave information technology a real squeamish flavor.
04/05/2020
Unusual for me to not "add" things to recipe. The simply thing I did dissimilar was I used some of the stock and gelled product in add-on to the 2 cups of beefiness broth. I put my leftover cooked prime rib- which I shredded the concluding few minutes. Information technology was delicious.
12/27/2018
I was skeptical because this recipe calls for merely under 3 cups of liquid (under considering you skim the fat off the ane loving cup of bootleg broth) Since y'all can't really buy ii cups of beefiness broth, I added 2 cans. The consistency came out perfect. It is odd that the picture shows carrots but none are called out in the recipe, nonetheless, I think this person has provided an fantabulous base of operations recipe which would exist adept with the addition any combination of soup parts; carrot, celery, shallots, etc.... I decided to make it as-is and found information technology to be fantastic! Beefiness, potato and mushroom have a very singled-out flavor and this is spot on. The only affair I did unlike, too the boosted broth, was to garnish with fresh grated horseradish and Parmesan cheese along with the chive. Oh, and I added a little more leftover prime rib besides just the bone meat.
01/eleven/2019
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this soup. I did add together a few extra vegetables and some Better Than Bullion Vegetable Stock. I will exist fixing this whenever I have left over prime rib.
12/27/2019
The soup is delicious but at that place was confusion equally to what to practise with the stock in the pot afterward Step 1. We tossed it out and realized nosotros probably should've used it. Fabricated additional beef goop and it turned out cracking.
01/07/2019
This is a nifty utilise of a very expensive cutting. I really like using the bones to enrich the stock. I did add onion, garlic, and Worcestershire too as a fleck of Italian herb mix. Nosotros enjoyed it immensely. Next time I desire to add some mixed vegetables along with potatoes, carrots and mushrooms. Thank you for a great recipe to utilise those costly 'leftovers'.
01/01/2017
The smell in my kitchen was unbelievable! I fabricated this using leftover bones. The butcher cut me steaks from my prime rib roast and left the bone telling me it was great for soup. I followed the directions but was short on time so I made some changes. I but the raw rib basic in a pot of hot water adding ii sodium gratuitous beefiness bullion cubes to it. While I boiled that on loftier I chopped upwardly my potatoes and carrots( diced them). Next I chopped up an onion and sautéed information technology in butter and garlic with the carrots in a seperate pan. I then turned down the temperature of my stock from high to a trivial above depression when I could see some of the os sticking out. I added a cup of hot water from microwave to cover os. Later on about 2 1/2 hours I took liquid off stove strained information technology. Placed it in my garage to cool quickly( after 15 minutes information technology was slightly cool and I skimmed doff some of the fatty) placed it back in pot added my onions, carrots, potatoes, and a can of au jus to the liquid. Brought it back to rolling boil for x minutes added some pepper. Turned information technology to simmer placed my left over prime rib in information technology which was diced and placed the chapeau on this soup. It simmered for another one-half hour to 45 minutes. Served with crusty rolls and it was the all-time soup ever!
08/12/2019
Delicious and neat comfort food!
12/27/2018
Excellent! I added celery, onion, peas, and carrots to the recipe. Served with fresh broiled Italian breadstuff it was a existent winner! Thanks for sharing!
12/28/2017
Delish! the whole family loved this soup. I added in the left over au jus and used Ditalini pasta instead of potatoes. Will certainly make again.
12/29/2014
Too much pepper. I had to add lemon juice, Beef goop, and heavy cream to effort to fix it.
12/30/2018
This was fabulous. Added Worcester sauce and a tad of wine. Excellent manner to use the prime rib. Thank y'all
02/11/2022
Another excellent reason to look frontwards to prime rib...the leftovers!
01/02/2021
Was yummy - took suggestion to do in two days - eddy the ribs on twenty-four hours one and use the stock on day 2. Also saute-ed onions, carrots & mushrooms in olive oil, added garlic and deglazed with 1/four cup red wine. Used left over au jus and lemon pepper to flavour.
01/02/2022
My first attempt at soup, followed the initial stages to the letter, boil bones for 2 hours... I can tell you the reduction process took an additional 4 + hours. Given the large amount of fat/oil that remained, it was difficult to judge the amount of reduction I would stop with, and really resulted in just over one-half a cup, as opposed to the ane cup the recipe calls for. Made some changes to the recipe, added in chopped onion, celery, carrots, garlic. Sauteed in that social club, although I added the mushrooms and saved the garlic for last. If you've e'er sauteed mushrooms you know how they release their water subsequently heating upwardly a scrap, and I waited until that procedure had completed itself before adding the garlic, and then each of the remaining ingredients. Wanted a larger quantity, so used 32 oz beef stock and an boosted 32 oz vegetable stock. I added in 3/4 cup barley to requite the soup a little filler, and finally, thickened with one tablespoon flour. Finished product is excellent. Will definitely exercise this again.
01/04/2015
The simply problem with this soup is it doesn't concluding very long. Very good!
01/01/2019
ane teaspoon of pepper fabricated it as well peppery but information technology was much meliorate the second twenty-four hour period.
12/28/2018
Delicious and piece of cake to make. Instead of adding potatoes to the soup, I fabricated mashed potatoes and topped with the soup. I also added frozen peas and carrots.
01/03/2016
Didn't make as much soup as I thought. Very good though.
04/13/2020
similar to my grandma'south vegge beef soup...deceiving is your film, there is celery and onions and carrots but recipe don't call for it .
12/26/2015
It was so good! I added carrots, large onion, garlic, potatoes, mushrooms, beef broth. Let it simmer for 4hrs on low.. Meat melted in your mouth!
02/07/2021
It was very good. Would arrive again.
01/01/2017
Wonderful taste. A bit thick More than of a stew than a soup. But, information technology might be my go to for subsequently Christmas prime rib dinner leftovers
01/02/2020
Overall good, tweeted by adding some ruddy wine and sugariness potatoe for additional taste.
12/29/2015
This is an splendid soup and we love information technology. I relieve upward steak bones and prime number rib bones to utilize. I likewise add together celery and carrots to information technology. Yummy!!!!!
